Are We Having Fun Yet?

The other day, I was introduced to someone like this, “Meet Tom, you would not believe how this guy eats”.  So the gentleman asked me, “What do you eat?”  I said, “First, let me tell you what I don’t eat. I do not eat meat, chicken, fish, dairy and no grain products (rice, pasta, bread ,etc.).  He looked at me and said, “That’s no fun, I could never do that”.  This comment kind of summarizes why the health of many in this country is in such bad shape.  Many associate eating their favorite foods with happiness and having fun.

Being Tied Into the Standard American Diet (SAD) Is a Big Problem

Food is connected to our emotions, the foods we grew up on are connected to good times, family and friends.  Unfortunately, if you were raised on the SAD diet you will eventually hit a brick wall.  It will stop you dead in it’s tracks with either cancer, heart disease, diabetes or something like arthritis or your back going out, to a host of other problems.  Now, to me, that does not sound like fun.  Even if it takes awhile before you hit the wall, what is the quality of your life now?  Can you still play tennis or kick ball with your grand kids?  Do you still have the energy to do your work and the things you enjoy?

Another Big Problem, Modern Medicine

Another big problem is being tied into modern medicine.  Doctors in the USA learn absolutely nothing, in all their years of medical school, about nutrition.  They are not taught the real root cause for most sicknesses (what we put into our mouths).  They are taught to treat disease with drugs and if that doesn’t work they’ll take your organs out and give you a replacement part.  This quick fix, treat the symptoms mentality, will destroy your body.  You must TAKE CONTROL over your own health.  YOU HAVE 100% control over your own health, never forget that.  Good health has to be earned, you cannot get it from a pill or a new replacement part.

Real Fun

Real fun to me is waking up with energy.  It’s being able to still do the things I like, like playing tennis, soccer or frisbie with the grand kids.  Continuing to do my job, as good, if not better, even though it’s physical, teaching tennis. Fun to me is mental clarity and learning new things, like a new song or lick on the guitar. Or running on the beach or trail, biking, swimming, hiking and climbing in nature. These are things that bring me pleasure and I thank the Creator for allowing me the opportunity to enjoy such marvelous gifts.

Make Baby Steps and Keep Progressing

If your health is deteriorating, take heart it’s never too late to do the right thing.  Start to incorporate more raw fruits and veggies into your diet, cut way back on animal based foods, nuts, seeds, avocados and your body will respond.  The less animal products you eat the more your body will utilize and appreciate the raw fruits and veggies.  You’ll start to realize you have more energy, you’re not as stiff after a workout, you recover faster, enjoy your workouts more often and that your body is getting stronger.
